I was born in 2001 and obviously did not know this movie exist. What can I say is, this movie is beyond everything I expected. So amazed by how brilliant the cinematography is, considering the quality of other movies at that time. The story line is no doubt one of the greatest, also the amazing actors. Watching this movie somehow made me so happy, that feel when you desperate by the quality of most Indonesian movies (especially the romantics) are... (idk what the right adjective) is but this movie is kinda boost da hope. So it's really worth to watch, personally my next favorite. The only disadvantage is that you probably will find it so difficult to search the right site to watch. Gonna be a total struggle but after finish the movie, it'll be paid off.

I can't help but feel like the movie is totally incomplete after watching this. Sudiro is doing well in this movie, which seem to have only 3 or 4 actors. The last years, Indonesian movies lack figurants, characters, and though some do well in the cinema, others don't appeal at all to the public like Banyu Biru.

Not the least the name is already confusing, even to Indonesians. Banyu is Javanese for 'blue', and Biru is Bahasa Indonesia for blue'. Banyu is actually the name of the boy, and Biru the name if his sister. Blue is also the color that hurts your eyes in this movie, and at times make you feel like you want to sleep.

Nevertheless, it was refreshing to see something like this movie, no matter how surreal. It has a few moments of humor, but in general it is drama, and the story has hardly enough time to unfold.

My Indonesian friends actually thought it was a bad movie, and to short. I thought it was just OK. But to be honest, as I was as much confused as them.

Banyu Biru is the most underrated film because the film critics in Indonesia are narrow minded towards the art and surreal film.

Banyu Biru is a surreal-road movie about Banyu who (Tora) is looking for answer from his father (Slamet Raharjo). Tora Surido is playing a completely different role this time as Banyu. Tora seems don't understand about the role. Most of the time in the movie, we can see, that Tora seems don't know what he is doing. From "the making of" he does admitted that a day before the shoot, he still not able to find Banyu's character. Well, if we judge it from the movie, he never get the character. But for some reason it doesn't matter, in fact it helps the movie a lot since Banyu is "why do I live like this" kind of person.

The movie was very short for a feature film, only 70 minutes. Maybe this is one of the reason why people dislike it. But Banyu Biru still is a good movie because of it's very different compare to other Indonesia movie that were trapped in the world of teen and horror movies.
