Plot summary

In Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, two national motorcycle festivals are held over the weeks around the Memorial Day Holiday. One festival is primarily white, the other is predominantly black. While bikers of both colors enjoy both festivals; the city, community and state view these two festivals vastly different creating a divide among the participants, business owners and residents. Against the backdrop of the historical relevance of the area's segregated past, this documentary explores the opposing viewpoints on segregation and integration, mutual love of motorcycle culture, and racial tensions that reach a boiling point every spring in this southern beach mecca.

Family Connections

My maternal are natives of Myrtle Beach. Atlantic Beach was the only place people of color could go to. I remember stories you could not go to the beach in the city of Myrtle Beach if you were not a maid or nanny for white family. Thank you for this documentary. I've have told family who go to Black week, keep tradition at Atlantic Beach. Myrtle Beach do not need our revenue. Let's honor our black beaches and keep our tradition. Also, Horry County need to allocate funds to Atlantic Beach and those attending Black Beach week need to boycott Myrtle Beach. The Harley's refuse to come to Myrtle Beach and are now having their week in Surfsde.

Interesting, but not enough

The story is very interesting and the history behind is scary, but there's so much missing. I saw literally about 15 motorcycles in the whole movie. There was no character to follow even tho it begun with a monolog from someone you think would play a bigger roll in this.

There's also a lack of contrast between the two worlds. Everything feels very shallow and it never lets you inside of the reality this movie is based on.

Interviews are good, but again, not enough depth. No one asks the people responsible "Why?". No interviews with the police and their view on the situation.

A shame, really. I'd love to follow some of these guys and get a feeling of what's going on. Can't make a documentary by being afraid. Then you end up with something like this.
