Well, you sure picked a shite-poor time to man up.

You might think this is all smarmy and about necrophilia when two teens, Rickie (Shiloh Fernandez) and J.T. (Noah Segan), playing hooky find a dead girl (Jenny Spain) in the basement of a mental hospital. Well, she is dead, but she isn't. She's undead.

Soon, she becomes a sex tool for J.T and his high school friends.

The conflict between the two life-long friends simmers the entire movie until it boils over in the end as we reflect on just what it means to be human.

Lots and lots of blood and zombie action, not so much sex. But, if you are looking for a horror film, you will be disappointed, as it is more philosophical and can't be easily fit into a category.

Dead good!

Life-long friends JT (Noah Segan) and Ricky (Shiloh Fernandez) cut class to explore a nearby derelict mental hospital where they stumble upon the body of a naked woman chained up and gagged in the basement. At first the girl appears to be dead, but on closer inspection she shows signs of life and Ricky is keen to call the police; JT, on the other hand, argues against this course of action, seeing an opportunity to indulge in some less than savoury behaviour with the helpless woman. Not wishing to be party to such deviant behaviour, Ricky leaves in disgust.

The next day, JT approaches Ricky saying that he has something important to show him. Ricky reluctantly agrees to accompany JT back to the basement where the girl is still chained up, but now showing signs of extreme physical violence. Ricky is naturally horrified by what JT has done, even more-so when his friend shoots the girl three times at close range; however, shock quickly turns to amazement when JT shows him that the girl is still moving, and explains that she simply cannot be killed.

Will the fact that the girl is no longer technically human change Ricky's perspective, allow his raging teenage hormones to rule his head, and see him joining in with JT for a spot of zombie shagging? Of course not... he's the good guy... but what does happen is still seriously twisted and sees JT pimping out his zombie sex slave to stoner pal Wheeler (Eric Podnar), convincing jock bullies Johnny (Andrew DiPalma) and Dwyer (Nolan Gerard Funk) to double-team the dead girl, and ultimately help his best bud to realise his dreams and finally get together with first love Joann (the gorgeous Candice Accola).

Of course, Deadgirl requires suspension of disbelief above and beyond that of simply accepting the notion of a living dead woman: the viewer is also expected to believe that virtually all teenage boys would jump at the opportunity to gang-bang a zombie 'babe', despite the obvious health risks and the sticky issue of sloppy seconds, thirds, fourths etc.. Go along with that cynical conceit, however, and the chances are you'll have a great time with this inventive zombie horror, particularly if you have a twisted outlook on life in general. Deadgirl positively revels in its extremely warped premise, presenting such dubious delights as its captive corpse being repeatedly 'raped' by randy adolescent reprobates, Johnny's guts exploding from his ass in the crapper, JT and Wheeler attempting to abduct a woman at a gas station (and getting their butts kicked in the process), and JT proposing the use of deadgirl's pus-oozing bullet wound as a surrogate vagina. Lovely!

If you're bored of zombie films offering the same-old siege set-up and want to see the subject treated in a refreshingly different manner, or you simply want to watch teenage perverts boffing a stiff, I highly recommend Deadgirl—it's dead good!

Disturbing, compelling and flawed

This movie will grab you, if you let yourself into it. It's disturbing and might haunt you, if you are willing to take the "ride". Fun it's most definitely not. But in a weird way it's grossly compelling. An exercise in human behavior (of course not meant to be understood as a blueprint for everyone), this movie is definitely an unsettling watch and weird experience.

While the main actors here can be seen in smaller roles in bigger pictures (one of them plays a blink and you'll miss him role in Cadillac Records for example), they do convince and play their roles as straight as they can. It's not a perfect movie, but it's a small little picture, that might be a stepping stone for it's director, if he can take this experience from this movie and continue with bigger things. I think he the ability to do so ... This one definitely is not for those who can't bear watching "torture" (be it of physical or psychological nature).
