No pun intended - and of course no one is flipping it or any other bird for that matter (I reckon this could count as mansplaining - I just hope no one feels offended - no offense intended either that is). The movie apparently is based on a novel - as you can tell by the way I wrote that ... I have not read the novel (yet). I doubt I will - time constraints and all that.
The movie is quite well done (cinematography, sets, acting and all that) ... and yet it never really won me over during the run time. It does have its moments (comedy and otherwise), but nothing too major to make me think "wow this is exceptional". But then again this may just be me. Watch it and make up your own mind. I'm glad I did not go to cinemas to watch this - it was easier to stream at home anyway.
Plot summary
When investment banker Linda Bachmann and her team arrive at Lord and Lady Macintosh's country estate, the signs are not good for a relaxing weekend in Scotland: the annual balance sheet is lousy, colleagues are suspicious of themselves and their boss, and it works the rumor that soon a compliance employee will restructure the team. To top it all off, the property is not very comfortable, cook Helen's skills cannot hide that, and the methods of the young seminar leader Rebecca also seem rather questionable. When first the Lord's favorite peacock and then the Lady's favorite goose disappear, further arguments and chaos are inevitable. And finally it starts to snow...

Flipping the Peacock
The Peacock
Investment banker Linda Bachmann (Lavinia WILSON) and colleagues from her department are taking part in a team building event in a Scottish manor. Not everything goes as planned there. Conflicts between colleagues, hidden just below the surface, break out. When the peacock of the lady of the manor, who has an "unhealthy" liking for the color blue, is found dead, the situation becomes more and more chaotic...
Based on the surprise bestseller "Der Pfau" (The Peacock) by author and translator Isabel BOGDAN (born 1968 in Köln (Cologne)), released in 2016, the film is an all-too-harmless German crime comedy that was shot primarily in Belgium. The actors (Annette FRIER, Svenja JUNG, Serkan KAYA, David KROSS, Tom SCHILLING, Jürgen VOGEL) are in a good mood and are well-known German actors from film and television, who are able to find funny and very entertaining moments in their roles.
Unfortunately, the plot does not feel urgent enough, and the films style only occasionally exceeds the level of a TV movie. Average comedy that achieved respectable success in German cinemas, but will probably have a hard time outside the German-speaking area!
