I enjoy most of the Hallmark Mysteries. Some are better than others, and all follow a bit of a formula, but the twisted and turns in each is different. The actors, almost without exception, are strong personalities that fit the roles well. Both the female and male leads and supporting actors bring excitement to their characters.
It's great to see new mysteries and this one seems real with its depiction of a military vet returning to civilian life. This will be a great addition, though we still miss some of our favorites like Gourmet Detective and Mystery 101. I look forward to seeing this and more of the coming mysteries on Hallmark.

A good add to a fleet of Hallmark Mysteries
Better Than Some
I really looked forward to this movie. The premise was interesting and, frankly, several of Hallmark's latest entries were really bad. One of my problems here was the female lead who was "staying strong" for her children but projected emotionless concern. She was so in control that even when she fostered a patient's dog, it was cold and cautious. Her 2 children want a dog-high schoolers-but she keeps saying it's a big responsibility over and over. No response to the possibility that perhaps they need the pet to help them heal. She has to assess and reassess everything by what she thinks. Bringing home a puppy without involving the children at the end? I guess it keeps her in control. She pushes for an autopsy of a patient who died suddenly, again it all seems intellectual. When she and the detective, obviously, go beyond just looking at the case, it felt forced. Why move forward on the personal level when just solving the case would suffice? She's widowed, served in Afghanistan and has 2 children. Adjustment time, please. This series shows promise but needs warmth. Lastly-why are offices and homes so poorly lighted! I don't sit in a dark doctor's office.
Prepare to suspend reality...
What is a doctor doing messing around in investigating? Why do so many of these Hallmark Mysteries have implausible plots? How many doctors have the free time to go around investigating a murder? Surely she has some patients??
A. She has two kids. They have just moved to a new town and school. Surely she could be putting her efforts to helping her kids adjust?
B. She is NOT a detective. She meets up with the real detective, cutie Brendon Penny while looking to adopt a pet.
C. Through her meddling, she runs into some nasty people and is making herself a target!!
D. The actual detective never answers his phone!! SERIOUSLY????
E. Fat chance a detective would allow non-police to look through files.
F. Another fat chance a detective would allow non-police to listen in to interviews with the suspects.
Naturally, during her investigations, she gets caught by the baddies. TOTALLY PREDICTABLE!! Now she does knows some good kung fu in order to get away from the baddies. However, PLEASE GET BACK TO YOUR OFFICE!!!
"She did this all for the money- Makes no sense." SERIOUSLY!!! Of course THAT makes sense as a motive for murder!!
