The movie is billed as a tragicomedy, but there isn't really any humor. I do give props to the dialogue delivery - the actors had a good script and the characters' emotions were conveyed accurately. On a basic level, we can all relate to the two characters as they grapple with a secret. And many may relate to the difficulty of having estranged family members.
I can't say it's a memorable or alluring movie, although the scenery and acting were fine enough. In my view, the subplot of the main character portraying a former television star didn't pay off in the end.
In closing, it's superb acting with an average plot line.
Plot summary
Aging TV star Walter Campbell's attempts to break up with younger girlfriend Lucy are thwarted by the announcement of her pregnancy. Looking for space, Walter resolves to visit his estranged daughter Nic, currently residing in Big Sur, resentful of her father's neglectful parenting and womanizing ways. He agrees to give a lift to Nic's friend Kim, who having recently attended the funeral of her estranged mother, is dealing with her own emotional baggage. Upon arriving in Big Sur, Walter discovers that Nic is living on a lesbian commune, and is in fact due to get married. Nic is appreciative of Walter's acceptance of her sexuality, which sees the pair's relationship begin to repair, but this newly formed bond is at risk of being destroyed once and for all.

Works as a drama, but not a comedy
Great with major flaws
Emily Bett Rickards et al really hold this one together.
IMO, the flaws were:
1. That the Kim character (Rickards) actually had sex in a car with a stranger at a bar and, later, with Nic's (gf/fiancee) father in a hotel room. And the plot focuses on that secret liaison and Nic's shortcomings as a father but not Kim's apparent promiscuity or Nic's poor judgment of character (choice of partner). I don't know if
they did get married, reconciled, or just split.
2. the overuse of f-bombs when the affair with the father is admitted.
----------------------------------------------------------------
1 Deliberately botched (for the "it's so bad it's good" crowd)
2 I don't want to see it
3 I didn't finish and or FF'd through it
4 Bad
5 I don't get it
6 Good
7 Great but with a major flaw
8 Great
9 Noir with moral
10 Inspiring with moral.
soft pass
Not really exciting and although the story line was plausable the direction they took it was not.
Bunch of misfits for friends.
Maybe 1 funny part but the rest was just boring
