Good family film

Jessie (Julia Brown) is a teenager who wants to become a famous hairstylist just like her mom Valerie (Gail Watson). She has a secret to the unique haircuts that she creates: her invisible partner is Ghillie Dhu (Huck Whittle), a forest elf who loves cutting human hair.

Set in Edinburgh, Scotland, this is a fun family story about an elf seeking a lost childhood friend, a daughter seeking for her mother to care about her and discovering how to transform your art into a career.

Directed by Phillip Todd, who wrote the script with his brother Matthew and Lindsey Stirling, this movie was a nice bit of happiness and cheer in the midst of the usual violence and sleaze that plays in this house.

I think that kids that watch this will enjoy seeing how Jessie stays positive despite rejection and hardship, devoted to making her life better and somehow connect with a mother who seemingly only cares about her own career. I'm sure you'll figure out who the girl that Ghillie Dhu used to play with that moved to the big city really is, but this is such a fairy tale - literally - that I figure that you won't mind at all.

While it has a lower budget, the film makes the most of its setting, cast and special effects. And yes, it may be a family film, but it kept me watching.

This movie is childish

This movie is childish and could barely deliver it's point..I wonder how it got this much good reviews...the only reason why I gave it 5 star is because Ghillie du the elf boy is adorable...I mean come on..they didn't even expand on the fact that the mom Valerie was the one Ghillie knew...or the fact that Amelia was a fraud...they just ran through this movie without properly hitting the nail on the head on any part at all...this is my first time writing a review on any movie because I was hopeful after reading all the good reviews here and I got disappointed...maybe the reviews were bought because this movie sucked...it should be for kids from 6 and below.

A fun, summery Adventure, worth a watch.

Jessie and her elf friend (notably different from Will Ferrell's character) 'Ghillie Dubh' meet and have an adventure around the streets of a generic Scottish town. Attempts at family reconciliation ensue.

Expect lots of Scottish accents, some lovely drone shots and a story that is somewhat involved, but you soon grasp the concept. Some unexpected themes are tackled, which gives it some more credibility.

CGI is pleasantly lightweight, and doesn't burden on the viewer.

Acting is generally good, though some characters are better than others.

Some cheerful slapstick moments, some unexpected, most of which land well. Age range of seven plus seems about right, as one would expect from a family film.

Score is surprisingly good (no royalty-free soundtracks here) and I actually thought that the credits song was a Tidelines tune, before realising it too was original.

Worth watching.
