. . . on Jan. 7, 1785 or in America on Jan. 9, 1793 has an incident remotely similar to the entire plot of MAIL DOG actually occurred. Why WOULD it? WHY would a pilot of a mail plane "icing up" believe that lightening his load by ditching a few ounces of high-priced correspondence could save his bacon? Speaking of bacon, said pilot could gain a lot more peace of mind by simply upchucking his lunch out his window! Furthermore, is every square yard of Alaskan glacier populated by a self-starting MAIL DOG, eager to take off by his lonesome on a solo excursion with the tiny pouch dangling below a parachute should one land on his particular spot? In real life, the handful of genuine mail dogs never operated on their own. When Chester N-o-o-n-g-w-o-o-k of S-a-v-o-o-n-g-a retired in 1963, mail dogs became a relic of the Past.

I have no idea if this cartoon debuted in 1949 as the title screen says or if is correct and it came out in 1947. Regardless, it's a pleasant and enjoyable Pluto cartoon.

When the story begins, a mail plane is forced to turn around due to bad weather. Instead, Pluto is expected to take the mail pouch to its destination...though snow and mountains. Along the way, he picks up a rival, a bunny, and Pluto doesn't realize that the bunny is actually trying to help.

This is not a great short...but it is enjoyable and has a sweet ending....making it well worth your time.
