From a fated mistake, to the reinvention of a man's entire life.
You have an older Bank Manager who eagerly accepts a chance at a singing role in the Opera, where he has the chance to finally fall in love with the girl that initiated this chance encounter! The age difference seems somewhat.. wrong, but once you see both the sweet Lena's support and Mr. Gunnar being the nicest man you've seen, you can't help but encourage.
Overall, it is a really high quality romantic-comedy that has to be watched to be believed (specially from Sweden back in the 50s). From locations, the entire cast and script. At times, it's like watching a cartoon and it's quite capable of making you smile with its charm, energy and wit. Many elements reminds of Amadeus (1984), but singer's rivalry in particular. I, obviously, quite enjoyed both and would easily recommend this as a "hidden gem" for anyone interested in foreign movies.

"April's Fool"
A concentrate of spring feelings
This film contains the essence of spring feelings: love, humour, nice weather and all that stuff. Lena Söderblom is at her best, and so is Gunnar Björnstrand, who does his romantic character quite well. Jarl Kulle is outstanding as the neurotic opera singer, as is Hjördis Petterson as his mother. Well worth seeing.
