As a Monster High fan I'm glad Toralei stole the movie.

Well, Monster High 2 is much better than MH 1 as the part of MH universe. But as a piece of cinematography, as a movie it has flaws. And flaws. And guess what? Right you are. Flaws.

The movie central character, the protagonist is still boring. Sometimes that's what you get when you post an original (canon) kind of supportive character as the leading one for your (not canon) story.

The main idea looks strange. To stop your evil mommy or daddy is one thing, idk, maybe it's even a good message for movie watchers (children). Maybe. But to give your evil mommy or daddy as prisoners to their mortal enemies? Obviously something's wrong with the moral compass.

At least they are perfect and marvelous in dancing.

Why 7?

Well let's start with my pick "7" for a rating on this sequel of MH movie. Honestly would've given it a 10 based on actors and plot but.. There is ALWAYS a "but" you know?

1st of all let's start with the basic such as Watch time.

So is it long enough - yes, but the problem here lies within those minutes. That's the lack of some details and missing on some major points that could've been put into the movie to make it more desirable to the audience.

2nd of all - Cringe?

Yeah, a bit too much but is it bad? Well probably yes, as well as no... It has touching moments but some are a bit too much. How? Well - overplayed. Meaning that the actors were a tad bit too into trying to get it right but it just doesn't work and it's cringe.

3rd thing is the Ending...

And I'm not talking about the cliffhanger, no. I'm talking about all the unanswered questions.

You see, indeed it is a good way to keep someone on their toes and such but hell with it. I'll divide this into sections and explain what I mean.

1. Deuce Gorgon and his journey - we need answers to that and mostly why the sudden change of heart? Yeah, he says that he has to find himself like Clawdeen Wolf did and all but how and when THAT particular decision came to existence?

2. Deuce and Clawdeen!? Ok, hear me out now - they kissed and what came? Him leaving without any explanation to what they are, like seriously they kiss and ~whoosh~ a freakin' song about friends pops up afterwards, like come on, seriously?

3. Cleo and Clawdeen's relationship - ok now on that. Apparently in and after the first movie we should've seen them not be friends but more like enemies to friends kind of thing or something because of the fact that Cleo used to date Deuce and probably still has feelings for him after breaking up. But funny enough they were hitting it off quite well... (Or I guess the idea here is to make girls not hate girls that date their ex) ?

4. Frankie and her powers. That's a bit off here - all in all she should've had it since day 1 to be exact and not upgraded afterwards. For a fact that's how she's been "born" and that's part of her life energy so it's something that's not exactly on point here and needs more touches to it.

5. Missing on some major characters, why?

Such as Lagoona's crush for example.

6. Less development for some of the main cast - why?

7. Now the ending with the reaper - that's uncalled for. Sure they indeed played with Clawdeen's fate but let's be real for a moment and explore some facts here:

  • Frankie is an electrical monster (in a way) and Doctors use electric waves to wake patients up and giving them a chance to live again so that's what happened there but the Reaper wasn't happy? Why? Or is there a possibility that he actually isn't coming to take Clawdeen's life but Frankie's? Because as we all know she's made out of different body parts of like dead people and actually sensed her when waking Clawdeen up?

Now that's something I really need to have an answer to.

So yeah. Based on this and probably a lot more stuff that I don't have time to unravel now my overall score is, and will be, 7 until the questions get their answers.

But honestly this movie is worth it even with the things it lacks - still a good movie to snuggle up and watch.

!!!RECOMMENDED!!!

I love that it's a musical. The songs are catchy, performed by talented teens.

IN A NUTSHELL: Hi, ghouls! This a family-friendly movie for the kids to get in the "safe" spirit of Halloween. Our favorite monsters from the first Monster High are back, entering their Sophomore year in school with colorful costumes, monster puns, musical numbers, and a new villain and threat to the world.

The film was directed by Todd Holland, who also co-wrote it with Matt Eddy and Billy Eddy.

THINGS I LIKED: If you haven't seen the first movie, you'll be caught up to speed within the first few minutes.

I love that it's a musical. The songs are catchy, performed by talented teens.

The monster costumes and characters are well defined and entertaining.

The choreography is cute.

There's a twist. Ooooooh!

The talented cast includes Miia Harris, Nayah Damasen, Ceci Balagot, Salena Qureshi, Case Walker, Marci T. House, Jy Prishkulnik, and more!

Rather than just being singing monsters, it was fun to see many of them use their special powers.

Keep watching during the final rolling credits to see some behind-the-scenes footage.

If you enjoy this cute franchise, you'll be happy to know the film ends with a cliffhanger, alluding to ANOTHER sequel.

THINGS I DIDN'T LIKE: If you don't like puns, beware.

It's very goofy.

Because more time was spent on character development in the first movie, we don't learn much about the various monsters in this one.

TIPS FOR PARENTS: Lots of farting and belching Some violence One of the characters is played by a Trans/non-binary actor.

Some French is spoken without subtitles.

Parents will approve of all the lessons taught.
