Like Seeing A different Persona of Stephen Chow

The King of Slapstick Comedy, Stephen Chow is a man of different personalities but among them his Chaplin like Tramp persona has dominated all of his other images.

One may only remembers chow for his carrer of producing some of the best comedies of the Slapstick Genre but they should not forget that he is not only a comedian but a Very Capable actor too.

In this early Chow Film he is not only able to entertain us with his silly and on point comedy but also delivers a good performance as a new recruit of a triad syndicate following the footsteps of his idol, his hero.

Though it is not as good as John Woo's "Bullet in the head" 1990 but it also uses the concept of three friends trapped in a serious situation & chow gives a good performance while saving his friends life when they are trapped in Thailand.

One may not like it as it may not be that much comedy as chow other comedies that will be coming in the following years, but seeing chow act silly and good at the same time is a good experience while will become more prominant in the movies he made after 2000, showing his full self as an very capable actor, director and performer.

Decent Stephen Chow flick

MY HERO is one of the more decent Stephen Chow parodies, excelling as both a comedy but also a genuine and serious Triad movie at the same time. It's a surprisingly vicious adventure in which various characters are bloodily offed as the running time progresses and there are some real moments of pathos and camaraderie as time goes on. Chow plays the usual goofy character who accidentally becomes a member of a crime family, and the best material sees him hanging out with his new chums Chun and Bill, the latter played by the great Shing Fui-on in one of his loveliest roles. But betrayal and double-crossing follow, with lots of guest stars showing up in nice supporting roles and some great action sequences sprinkled throughout.

Enjoyable But Early Stephen Chow

Another movie featuring Stephen Chow's affable, lovable, but incompetent character, Sing. While this is obviously not the same Sing as in his other movies, the progress from bumbling bumpkin (or, in this case, simply a fool) to hero is similar to many of his other pictures.

I'm not sure if the director (Ka-Yan Leung) was holding Stephen Chow back, or whether he was just finding his comedic roots, but this movie shows only glimpses of what would later blossom into the persona that has, of late, begun to take even America by storm.

Still, there are plenty of good jokes and a good bit of well-choreographed action, and the story, while really just a vehicle for Chow's talent, isn't as predictable as some similar movies. Some of the gags in this feature are fresh and clever, but the music and the acting make it hard to take very seriously.
