This second movie didn't even come close to hitting the main points of the manga or anime. They de-constructed the entire plot. Ridiculous for anyone to watch unless they are in love with Hiroki like me! They took out the best part at the end and leave you wondering if you are going to get a 3rd movie. The replacement of actors we all know and love, to be replaced by people we have no clue who they are, although I dare say Shin's replacement is more similar in appearance to the illustrated version than Matsuyama did. I was VERY upset to see Ryuhei replaced as Ren but what can you do when a director assumes an actor will want to be stuck in a role people know for the character and not the actor himself. It didn't really bother me that they replaced Nana (Hachi) because I wasn't thrilled with either of their performances. Compared to the first Nana this one was a complete bust. Even though I knew that there was more to come at the end of the first film I felt fulfilled. Enjoy!........or not!

Unbelievably disappointed
Disappointed from such a good manga
Saw it not too long ago and I must say that I was fairly disappointed. Especially since the second half of the story is just so heartbreaking and dramatic, having seen the anime, and they just destroyed it.
The new Hachi feels pretty fake, and her acting reminds me a lot of her old role in "Kurosagi", which is by the way a complete different character (A.k.a the girl that cries "Kurosaki-saaaaan" 10 times á episode). But other than that the other new arrivals were okay, not great, but okay.
Lack of feeling, sloppy editing and some bad acting is what you get here, although Hiroki Narimiya (Nobu) pretty much saved it from being a total disaster. I must say that his acting is just getting better and better... not to mention his cool mohawk haircut in this flick.
Representation of the manga could have been a great deal better
This rating and review is strictly based on the movie and its representation of the original plot, and not based on the the original story.
The characters physical portrayal vs. anime:
The main characters looked very much like the original. This was probably the best part of the movie.
The characters and acting:
the acting was awful, particularly the actor for Hatchiko (Nana Komatsu). The actor tried to remain true to the anime character and one could see she was trying very hard. However she lacked sincere emotion. The true manifestation of the loneliness and state of desperation was a fail in coming across to me as a viewer. I was not convinced that Hatchiko was lonely. Just pretending to be a happy go lucky girl, and even so it seemed forced, but not because she was lonely but rather she just wasn't used to showing her emotions.
The plot representation.
The very basic storyline was well represented but it completely left out the message of youth, the recklessness of youth and the impact of fear of abandonment and loneliness during youth.
Score and music:
this could have made the movie. As it stands because of its absence, it broke the movie. The anime used music to transfer the emotion to the viewers. The movie could do something similar. Music is fundamental to the storyline and its a shame that it wasn't used to the fullest advantage, to connect with the viewers. The movie became cringe worthy because there were intense scenes that were so quiet i just kept fast forwarding because it just wasnt doing the scene justice.
