Straight to Video Horror Heaven

Nightmare Sisters is a lesser known horror title from David De Coteau who's mostly been known for his homoerotic horror films from the last decade. In this, he gives scream queens Linnea Quigley, Brinke Stevens, and Michelle Bauer some of their most interesting roles to date.

They play three pathetically dorky girls who summon an evil spirit during a seance and turn into sexy sirens who seduce and murder several dumb jocks. It's a really simple premise executed as well as can be expected with the limited resources available.

A testament to the talents of the three leading ladies.

Out of the hundreds (maybe even thousands!) of actresses out there who try to claim the title "Scream Queen," Linnea Quigley, Michelle Bauer and Brinke Stevens are probably the best. How else can you explain how their mere presence enables you to sit through something as horrid, as plot less and as pointless as Nightmare Sisters? Don't get me wrong, this movie is horrible in almost every way and is really an insult to horror movie fans everywhere. But I gave it a "5" anyway and that's only because of the three leading ladies and their ability to enliven even the most atrocious film. They get to goof off here at the beginning (there's one incredibly amateurish unbroken 'talking' shot that lasts about 10 minutes) and then basically spend the rest of the film running around naked after they are possessed by a demon. There's also a long drawn-out nude bathtub scene, but watching the girls just sitting there giggling, splashing water and looking like they are having a great time rubs off on the viewer and becomes enjoyable. It's a much sexier and more natural scene than what we B-movie fans would later encounter in Skinamax porn - you know long, dead serious, fake-looking, awkward simu-sex. So if you love Linnea, Michelle and/or Brinke, this makes a nice addition to your DVD collection. Otherwise it will be one of the most grueling viewing experiences you will ever encounter.

Horror vixens

Isn't it strange that the only force that could unite every heterosexual teenage boy's dream of seeing Linnea Quigley, Brinke Stevens and Michelle Bauer together in the same movie would be David DeCoteau and that he would do it more than once?

Quigley is Melody, a girl with bad teeth. Come on, who is going to love her? And Brinke as Marci? She has glasses! Surely a fate worse than death. Or what Bauer's Mickey must endure, as she's overweight. Luckily - or not - for our girls, they're possessed and suddenly make the minor cosmetic changes needed to become popular.

Of course, before they get revenge, they must take a bath together.

I guess never let it be said that DeCoteau didn't know what his audience wanted.

Made for $40,000 using left-over film, cast, and crew from Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama, this is the kind of film where the actresses do their own makeup and posters from past films are considered set decoration.

Except something weird happened. The company distributing the film went out of business and less than 2,000 copies of the tape were ever distributed. The film became an instant collector's item as tales of the bath scene grew legendary. When it eventually aired on USA Up All Night, that scene was no longer in the movie, replaced with the girls jumping on a bed.

Luckily, today we have companies like Vinegar Syndrome willing to put stuff out like this for the masses. And by masses, I mean maniacs like me that laid awake at night wondering if they'd ever see this movie.
