I came across this one on a horror site so by reading that it's all about a serial killer I wanted to see it immediately. Now that I have taken the ride i do have something to say about Ryde.
Let me start with the good things. The cinematography is excellent especially while the cab is driving throughout downtown LA. The acting was just above mediocre and the flick do contains it all to become a horror, all about a killer in a cab by calling the app Ryde this delivers on nudity (full frontal) and some murders. Sadly, and that's the thing I didn't like, the killings are rather low on gore or red stuff. Okay, I know, heads are being smashed but it's done twice on the same way. And it's always shown so the gore doesn't come in.
On the other hand, it shows that this is a low budget flick but it works out fine because with the driving you start to know the passengers. To make it complete there are a few scene's that you just didn't see coming. The ending on the other hand was so predictable that it's easy to guess what is going to happen.
Does it fit into the horror genre, well, it's to low on the scary or creepy part to call it a horror but viewers can be offended by the abuse of women, the nudity and the particular smashing of heads. So here we have it, it can be a hard ride for people used to watch thrillers but for horror buffs the ride will be to smoothly.
Gore 1/5 Nudity 1,5/5 Effects 2/5 Story 2/5 Comedy 0/5
Plot summary
Technology brings us closer. Or perhaps it brings strangers, a little too close. But how much can you really trust someone? With a new ride share service, you never know who will be getting in a car with. Or if you'll ever get out.

a slow mover just between a thriller and a horror
More like "Fake" Reviewers.
What has Hollywood paid you to sell your integrity? This flick is a solid 6. Not a 1, not a "my kid could shoot a better movie" not a "kindergartners could act better", but certainly not a ten. If this movie was on Lifetime you'd be eating it up though. Why is it not a ten? Well, it's nothing we haven't seen before. I'm still wondering if the killer had a heart, he seemed a bit sorry to kill the driver but not sorry to beat up his pseudo love interest. Predictable switcheroo at the end and who cares if she's pregnant. So maybe the acting wasn't top notch for a FEW characters (Not everydamnbody was bad) but isn't it nice to see some fresh faces? These 'one star' people have obviously never made a movie or can conceive of what it takes to finish one they're all so bloated on Marvel movies. If you want a Lifetime Movie, quality killer thriller, where you kinda root for the murderer and wonder if he'll get the girl, you'll enjoy this. You can tell if you want to watch a movie after 5 minutes. I've turned off plenty a movie and have never dared to write a review because "I turned it off after 5 minutes" isn't ethical. So then, who would sit through 84 minutes of "torture", someone's lying.
Had some potential, but was bad overall
I'll be generous and give it a 4 for having some okay ideas and it wasn't terribly shot (most of the film anyway). The acting however, was some of the worst I've seen in a while and that made it tough to watch. The ratings and some of the reviews for this film are definitely fake. I wouldn't waste your time on this one.
