I've Seen Better Radio Plays

If you've ever read any of my other reviews, you will know that my number one pet peeve today is the latest trend in lighting, or rather lack thereof. It's like every modern filmmaker dropped out of school before they got to good lighting techniques. After seeing this... those movies look like professional jobs! For five minutes we sat in total darkness while people talked. Everyone had a flashlight, but somehow, the light emitted defied all known conventional laws of physics. You could see the light of the flashlight, but it was unable to illuminate a single element of the scene.

Even before this, though, this group of friends was standing outside in broad daylight and you could not even see their faces for the shadows. Another director that thinks neutral density filters with no fill light equals "nighttime".

The "acting" of this motley crew was deplorable. I've seen better actors in the local kindergarten Christmas pageants. Seriously.

Unless you are atoning for some egregious sin, run - do not walk - as fast as you can from this pisspoor excuse for a movie.

Never seen anything this bad before in my life

This is so bad. I've never seen a movie this bad. I was using it as background noise as I use my phone because I knew it was going to be bad. I didn't expect this though. I was shocked to see it was released this year. It gives 2010 vibes. Like it was filmed on a phone at the turn of technological advances for phones. The lighting was horrible. It was a scene where every single person in this film was standing outside and there was a flashlight on one persons face and everyone else was pitch black. They could've held up a flashlight in the air to light everyone since a porch light wasn't available. They also did not remove mistakes from the film. There were at least two times in the same scene where someone forgot their line and there was a brief pause as we waited for them to find the line or move on. They could've cut 1.5 hours off this 2.5 hour movie to at least bring this movie up to a current decade. The actors/actresses must've came from Wish. That's crazy that they really thought we wanted to be tortured for 2 hours.

I completely agree with you

The film opens with Lily (Haleigh Johnson) and five friends going into an old house to look for ghosts. They find them and the group goes missing. Lily's sister Jackie (Caylin Brooke Sams) with the help of her detective boyfriend Joel (John Michael Hightower Jr.- also writer, director, editor) go look for her. Eventually she is found, but Lily just is not right. They bring in Father Dave (Scott Oakley) to perform an exorcism which was anti-climatic in a movie with exorcism in the title.

The film was way too dark with extended all black scene with people talking. What scenes did have light it was dim. I suspect this was done for effect and that effect ended up tuning people out. We could listen to the radio if we wanted a black screen. Also during the film two white spots appeared on the screen, sometimes just one. My TV screen is real clean right now and the spots stayed. Apparently one camera had some dirt on the lens. The film ran way too long. There were extended scenes could have been shortened and some cut altogether. However when the writer/director/actor is also the editor they want all the labor pains. This is not to say it was all bad. There were two good scenes. One was when Joel was talking to his Broski. He was very funny on the phone. The second scene was the banter before the seance with Michael Jackson. Had they gone for comedy-horror all the way, I think they might of had a cult classic. The acting was bad. The two main stars have no business being in front of a camera. Did the priest live in a cul-de-sac? Having seen the "Twilight Zone" movie, I saw the stolen ending coming.

Guide: No swearing, sex, or nudity.
