Ghosting

No pun intended - also not what you may think it is ... well unless you think it is exactly what it is ... this being a horror movie, you may guess right I reckon. That aside, the question is: how much of a horror movie fan you are? Because that will determine how much fun you'll have, how much slack you will cut and how far your suspension of disbelief goes.

The acting is ok I guess, but nothing that will make you too excited either. The story or rather the scares are quite predictable. Nothing major ... breaks through here - well apart from that one thing ... well even that does not entirely - but that is a different story and another pun added.

Slow paced, boring and insanely uneventful...

When I sat down to watch the 2022 horror movie "The Creeping", from director Jamie Hooper, I had never actually heard about it. But with it being a horror movie that I hadn't already seen, then I needed no persuasion to sit down and watch it.

The storyline and script in the movie, as written by Jamie Hooper and Helen Miles, was so incredinly slow paced and boring. There is an insane amount of dialogue to sit through and there simply just isn't enough of anything overly interesting or scary going on throughout the course of the 94 minutes that the movie dragged on for. And I do mean 'dragged' literally. I was on the brink of giving up on watching "The Creeping" just 40 minutes into the ordeal, but opted to endure the suffering in the hopes of the movie picking up in pace and intensity.

I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble in the movie. But it should be noted that the acting performances had potential, just a genuine shame that the actresses and actors virtually had nothing to work with from the script in terms of plot, dialogue and anything interesting.

If you enjoy horror movies, such as I do, then do yourself a favor and skip on wasting 94 minutes on watching "The Creeping". It is a dull and monotonous viewing experience that doesn't even remotely functions as a proper horror movie.

My rating of director Jamie Hooper's 2022 movie "The Creeping" lands on a very, very generous three out of ten stars, and that is based solely on the acting performances and the production value the movie had, because the script was just simply a swing and a miss.

The Creeping

Due to a traumatic childhood experience - look, I feel like I say this every time in the way of giving advice to horror movie characters and I feel like a broken record, but please please please never ever forever go back home again and set things straight - Anna (Riann Steele) hasn't been back home in years. She makes the next cardinal modern horror mistake: she takes care of her dementia-suffering grandmother Lucy (Jane Lowe) - The Taking of Deborah Logan has been such a big influence in the near-decade since it was released - but soon realizes that a dark family secret remains and that only her murky childhood memories may hold the key to surviving.

The first full-length movie from director Jamie Hooper after a series of shorts, this movie was written by first-time screenwriter Helen Miles. Even from the start of the story, the old English cottage is quite a foreboding place, as we see a young Anna go from being read a ghost story by her father to being chased under the covers by something she can't see but has it to be real.

Unlike so many modern ghost stories that descend into herky jerky motions and dark whispered dialogue alternating with strobing light to show us hauntings, The Creeping settles for what has always worked, appearing closer to a traditional and classic ghost story than what we've had to take in modern films. It's quite welcome.
