What I took away from this movie was how we can lack basic human decency and how if we just pay attention, truly pay attention to someone, it can reveal so much of them and what they may need from you, no matter how little.

We, as a society, tend to lack empathy and only pay attention to the surface level of so many things, especially when someone is sick or physically unable to do certain things.

Jodie is a proud woman who is dealing with accepting her new limitations. She doesn't want pity, she wants support. Everyone around her is either trying to take over or is happy completely ignoring her until she asks for help, which she won't do as she herself is still trying to come to terms with her diagnosis.

The smallest gestures The Traveller does makes her feel some sense of normal again. The Traveler makes her feel needed, not only for food, but with the farm. They help her by working along side her, and NOT taking over and only physically helping when needed. The aspect of taking away her pain I feel is symbolic to taking away her metal anguish that comes along side this diagnosis. They Traveler helps her mentally by treating her the way she wishes to be treated. The smallest act of kindness, I believe, that gave her the most comfort was making her tea the way she likes. She felt seen, not as someone who's sick, but as a person. When her husband makes her tea at the end of the movie, the disappointment on her face tells me he was making it wrong. They've been together for so many years, yet he's never payed attention to how she likes her tea.

I would have loved more closure with this movie, but that's the harsh reality of life. Beautiful movie that you appreciate more when you look beyond the surface level of it.

Nuanced commentary on Brexit? A unique take on MS? Nah. This is quite literally nearly two hours of a woman teaching a mute alien how to run a farm. You can't even call it a "slow burn." Something would need to friggin' get burned.
