That closing shot.
As a story about someone letting it all kinda get away from them (themselves, their desires, their ability to connect emotionally) not due to some significant event but just through their everyday decisions and the passage of time, it's pretty depressing. But also funny and beautiful at times.
It made me real sad despite having no connection to the material or the immigrant experience.

Rings true to life
This film is not a fantasy in anyway, it's everyday life on what people go through, it is very slow but the actors performances really sell the film, I really like the way the main character not always somebody you want to root for, although you still feel bad for him.
Really examines past regrets and how it effects in the present. Sometimes I felt I was these characters, I forget at times it was just a movie, it feels very real.
Don't let this quietly affecting, profoundly human film get past you.
The relationship between Grover and Zhenzhen is one of my favorite on-screen romances in quite a while. Unfortunately, like so much else, it was ruined by the devastating lie that is the American capitalist dream. In a just universe, Lee Hong Chi would be in awards consideration; sadly, that seems as likely as Tigertail being as culturally prevalent as Tiger King.
