Lazy Writing

First of all, it is a Netflix movie. Like all Turkish Netflix movies, it starts with sex which doesn't contribute anything to the story. The movie mainly focuses on the dichotomy of modern vs traditional women. Our main character Dilara is an actress and represents the "modern" women at the start of the movie. Later on, she shoots a shampoo commercial which she isn't very hyped about because of the character named Handan in the ad. Whilst the shooting is ongoing, the director becomes dissatisfied with her acting and suggests her to "be" the character. Out of the blue, we observe that her life is shifted with the character.

The overall story could have been interesting but as I stated in the headline, there is so much lazy writing. The only thing that makes us curious is not explained enough in the movie, and that is naturally "How did that shifting of lives happen?" The movie does not answer this question. The only thing we are sure of is, she did experience all of those things (which is the entirety of the movie). We observe this by seeing a burn on her arm which the other character had burned herself earlier. But the movie doesn't answer how this happened or why she experienced them. We don't see any changes in her previous life as well. Thus, lazy writing it is.

If we take a feminist approach only, the movie doesn't deliver at that point as well. Because she wasn't oppressed when she shifted lives. The males are a bit uneducated but understanding and rather weak. This isn't the story of an oppressed traditional woman achieving herself. The motive was rather selfish on her part: She wants her old life back and that is it.

Surprised (for good) by the ending

I saw a review in this section which mentioned that the ending could have been better, and I am here to add that "cliché" comment "it has a deeper meaning".

What this film is trying to convey according to me, is an artist's life, be it actor, painter, musician, poet etc. The pain they undergo to give birth of their art... in this case we deal with acting, and even though the actor knows that there exists a real life outside the film or the play they are playing, they could get so immersed in it, to that degree that when they leave, they are not the same anymore, they even could end up with scars.

So, in the end we have this very short scene, which can so easily be overlooked, where Dilara has a scar on her arm. That scar was not there before she acted Belinda, it appeared after she got lost in Belinda's life. Dilara not only has changed, but from now on, she carries the scars of a character which she played.

And I am not saying every known actor experiences this, I am simply implying that certain actors, certain artists (probably very few) which feel deeply they art, have a price to pay. But maybe it is a worthwhile price...

No, thats not enough

I dont like this one. Now let me summarize a little bit.

First of all, the performances of the actors were quite ordinary, I expected someone to come out and shine, but it did not happen. It was also weird and unnecessary to have too many sex scenes (I'm not saying no sex scenes, but not artificial like that).

If I look at it from a technical point of view, I liked 2 time-lapses (scenes that are fast versions of short sections) I liked very much. I liked those scenes and the last dance scene. I didn't like the rest of the movie.

There were many logical errors. Although our main character (Dilara) is a different person in the part where she changes dimensions, it didn't have much of an effect, it made this movie worse.

So imagine that you went to another universe, imagine what kind of panic you would experience or how you would be terrified, there was none in this movie, as if they thought that 2 screams and 2 reactions would be enough, it was very insufficient.

Although it is a directing and adaptation, I did not like the script very much, I want much better digital works to come for our country, this level is very insufficient.

It was also a big mistake for them to make some real life very difficult things easy (cheating, money laundering, resizing, babysitting, getting approval from a psychiatrist and returning to real life). I wish I liked it, but I don't like it, it's not a recommendation.
