Wonderful Documentary

Return to Oldfield: Making from a Whisper to a Scream (2015)**** (out of 4) As far as making of documentaries go, you're going to be very hard to find one better than this one. The making of Jeff Burr's FROM A WHISPER TO A SCREAM gets a terrific documentary from the fine folks at Ballyhoo Motion Pictures. The documentary clocks in just a few minutes shy of the two hour mark and features interviews with writer-director Burr, co-writers C. Courtney Joyner, Darin Scott, several extras, production managers as well as archival interviews with Cameron Mitchell and Clu Gulager. If you're a fan of FROM A WHISPER TO A SCREAM then you're going to love this documentary because it really does cover every aspect of the making of the movie. It covers how all the writers met, how they ended up coming with the idea for the movie and then we learn the way they ended up coming up with the money. Every aspect of the filming of the movie is covered and we get a terrific idea of how a low-budget movie like this came together. The most entertaining aspect comes from them discussing how they paid $10 to get Vincent Price's address and how they just showed up at his house to see if he'd do the movie. The two-part way of them trying to get Price involved is just wonderful.RETURN TO OLDFIELD features countless interviews and all of the four stories in the film get their own making of section as does the stories with Price. Even if you're not a fan of the movie it's just an excellent documentary getting to see how a small film came together back in the day.
