Plot summary

On 20 November 2012, 15-year-old Andrea Spezzacatena took his own life. It was the first case in Italy of bullying and cyberbullying that led to a minor's suicide. The triggering incident was his choice to wear a pair of red trousers, a gift from his mother, which turned pink due to a washing mishap.

A real sad story

"The Boy with the Pink Pants" is a film that explores the theme of prolonged bullying toward teenagers during a delicate phase of adolescence.If it weren't for a few flaws (which I'll now list), the film would be much better - both in terms of cinematic style and emotional impact.So, the flaws in the film are about three or four.The first is that the film lacks depth - it feels flat - and this is due to the second point: the acting. In some parts, the performances come across as superficial and emotionless.The third point I'd like to highlight is that the bullying scenes (there are only a couple) are not very explicit, and because of this, they risk taking away the film's sense of realism and, as mentioned in point one, contribute to making it feel flat.Overall, the film is watchable and suitable for teenagers, as it shows the harsh side of bullying.It's a real shame about the lack of depth and the acting, which could have been much stronger.

Good.... Not for a young audience

The movie made me cry, rare thing as I watch many drama like that. The fact that this, particular movie was inspired by a true story made me sick, RIP for Andrea Spezzacatene.Plus, as an Italian I got really, really hurt by the movie, because the world will know how bad our teenagers can be. And that's not even the only time it happened..... In italy stuff like being gay (the guy wasn't, the friends created the rumors) or LGBTQ+ or even having a disability is seen as an opportunity to bully somebody. This is a movie made for an audience for 12 and older... So that they understand the dangers of bullying somebody, even for prank.
